Part Three: 5-5=Vote!

Young adults recently gave NPR 5 reasons why they did not vote in the 2016 general election and do not plan to vote in the 2018 midterm election. We take on the Big 5 in this new blog series, “5-5=Vote!”

Reason #3: I don’t know how. Students hear lots of voices telling them to register to vote and vote. But one young adult told NPR she didn’t know how; she didn’t know what to bring to vote. Did she need a pencil? A pen? Identification? Could she bring her little brother? Her dog? Most polling places will provide what you need for the mechanics of casting a ballot, but your state may require an official form of identification to vote, especially if it’s your first time. Find out whether your state requires identification and make sure you have what you need on Election Day. Some states even offer videos showing you how to vote. And yes, you can bring your little brother or sister, but probably not your dog…
