New Data Alert: Clark County, NV

As early voting begins, 65% of 18-year-old are registered to vote

Today, for the first time ever, we’re sharing data from Nevada – a critical swing state, where there is still time for voters to register.

We’ll be looking at registration rates for Clark County, which is home to nearly three-quarters (73%) of the state’s population, and encompasses Las Vegas, as well as four smaller municipalities.

This is the eighteenth of our 2024 Election Season weekly series of Future Voter Scorecards. Our goal is to help everyone concerned with youth and democracy understand where things stand, what is going right, and what needs improvement on national, state, and local levels to welcome young people as full participants, starting with registering to vote in high school.

Clark County, NV: By the numbers

As of October 19, 64.8% of 18-year-olds are registered to vote in Clark County, making the greater Las Vegas area one of the higher-performing urban areas we are tracking this election season.

Still, with two weeks until election day and early voting already underway, there are over 10,000 unregistered 18-year-olds in the county. The good news is that Nevada allows same-day voter registration, so Nevada citizens can register to vote any time up to and including Election Day. Those registering before Oct 22 can receive a vote-by-mail ballot.

A lot is at stake. The state has an abortion-protection initiative on the ballot, and CIRCLE at Tufts University has designated Nevada as one of the top five states in which young voters have the potential to make a difference in the 2024 presidential election and U.S. Senate race.

See below for our detailed scorecard on 18-year-old registration rates for the municipalities in Clark County.
