Meet The Civics Center’s inaugural class of Youth Fellows!

The Civics Center is excited to announce its inaugural class of Youth Fellows! This cohort of eleven high school students will be taking on projects aimed at improving youth civic engagement and voter participation through 2020. The cohort consists of students of all high school grade levels from seven states around the country (see below). Passionate about advocating for youth voices in our democracy, the Fellows bring unique perspectives, skills, and backgrounds to this important effort. The issues they care about include climate change, immigrants’ rights, LGBTQ+ issues, voting rights, poverty, gun control, and education.

We are delighted to introduce the Fellows:

Ameena Ahmed is a sophomore from Utah.

Sofia Avila is a senior from California.

Saanvi Bhatia is a first-year from Pennsylvania.

Hannah Botts is a junior from Kentucky.

Lintaro Donovan is a senior from Maryland.

Jasmine Lewis is a senior from Alabama.

Taja Mazaj is a senior from Pennsylvania.

Samantha McLoughlin is a junior from California.

Sanah Niazi is a junior from California.

Dorcas Olatunji is a senior from Delaware.

Jack Vein is a sophomore from California.

During twice-monthly Zoom meetings, the Fellows will learn valuable leadership skills, collaborate on strategies and tactics for making change, and gain experience in research and organizing. In addition, each Fellow will also receive a stipend to defray costs associated with their participation, and graduates who have excelled in the program will join an alumni network of youth leaders and have the opportunity to join The Civics Center’s youth advisory board.
